WHAT the sea never told

may 2018
mornington peninsula regional gallery

curated by danny lacy

Comprising large format video and sculptural components this solo exhibition takes as it's starting point the drowning of fifteen young men from the coastal town of Mornington in 1892.

Hazewinkel who grew up in Mornington spent his childhood, adolescence and early adulthood swimming in and sailing on the same body of water that took the lives of the fifteen young men.

The  exhibition takes the form of a deeply personal meditation on the loss of the young men's lives and explores the relationships between the powerful forces of the sea and the communities whose lives are woven into it.
