This group of 13 photographs can be considered Hazewinkel’s first direct photographic engagement with museum collections of ancient material culture.

Made in 2015 they represent one aspect of the creative research component of his PhD titled Stone Authority Violence: Relating Bodies, Materials, Remembering.

They were originally presented alongside other approaches to photography and a series of sculptural and other photo-mediated objects aimed at exploring how the materiality of things is caught up in the very human act of remembering; and sought to highlight the role of the body (both the viewer's and that of the material subject of each image) in those experiences.

The material subject of each photograph is held in the collection of the National Archaeological Museum, Athens with the exception of numbers 6 and 9 which represent collection items in the Acropolis Museum, Athens.
